Big Sable Point Lighthouse, MI
Yet another great Saturday to Sunday trip from Lansing. If you’ve been reading previous posts, I work 6 days a week delivering cargo so we have to make the most of the limited time off! We left after work on Saturday with the intention of catching the sun setting behind a lighthouse. Ludington was the plan, as there was a cool lighthouse I saw a friend shoot on Instagram. Unfortunately upon arriving we found that particular one was not dog friendly and we brought our fluff Suki with us. In a slight panic I googled around for other lighthouses and came across Big Sable that was indeed ok for the doggo. Off we went!
The hike in starts in a campground parking lot. Which is weird. We were there on a weekend and it was BUSY. The people watching is nothing short of spectacular. Once you get to the end of the campground there are signs that point the way and it becomes immediately not crowded. The whole two mile hike I think we saw two or three other couples walking the path.
The trail is easy enough, mostly flat with fairly packed down sand. We were late to the show and were in a rush to catch the sunset however so we made a workout of it.
After what seems to be an eternity of chasing the sun we saw the first bit of the lighthouse. As the trail continues it comes and goes until you see it in all its glory.
There are bathrooms there for my small bladder friends!
It is quite a sight. Especially at the golden hour point. Its still fully operational and an attendant is there keeping things in check.
I mean seriously. This was definitely worth the hike.
In search of angles. Fluff loving life, anytime theres somewhere new to sniff!
Yep she hates it. lol.
Climbed up one of the dunes to get another angle, you really cant go wrong with any angle of this place. Its awesome from all of them.
Ive started to train Andrea in the ways of the camera, shes good at it like all things, no surprise there!
Fluff photobombing, dangit doggo!
The hike back was pretty dark, lots of weird noises were coming from the surrounding ponds on the trail. We hiked this part pretty quick too. Once back in the campground area it seemed the parties were getting started. It was like the redneck Riviera haha. About 1000 RVs parked a foot away from each other and people running around everywhere. The people watching was again, on point.
