End Of The World (East Pocket), AZ
Another lesser known gem of Arizona, more specifically Flagstaff, is a sort of unofficial camping area. Overlooking Sedona it’s known to the locals as “The End of the World”. The drive is fairly tough for a normal 2 wheel drive car and not very easy for a 4 wheel drive car with low clearance. We ended up borrowing a friends car to make it. To get there you need to go to downtown Flagstaff, and then take route 66 to Woody Mountain road. Ive conveniently labeled it on a map for you! Once you get to the point on the map, continue down Woody Mountain road for 26 miles. Its mostly a dirt road. Youll know your there, once you get there. CLICK HERE FOR MAP .
Driving down the seemingly never ending dirt road. Your on it for a solid hour if you drive cautiously.
We did our trip towards the end of April and it was still in the low 30s. We even got to see a mini blizzard!
A couple of our campers staying close for warmth.
The views at sunset.
Once the sun went down the stars really lit up. Sadly the clouds messed up the view for portions of the night.
Fire going and trying to stay warm in the freezing cold
The morning view! There was a cool looking low overcast layer of clouds.
Periodically the clouds would roll right into where we were camped.
This was the car we drove in, nice high ground clearance and full time four wheel drive.
A vertical panoramic of the campsite and stars!
