Mackinac Blue Ice, MI
Blue Ice! This is rare, only happens every few years, and when it does it only lasts a couple days. Naturally Andrea and I had to see this. We left late on Saturday after work like we usually do and drove through the night. I found a hotel on the North side of the Mackinac bridge that was reasonable. Our plan was to see the sunrise on the north side behind the bridge and then see the blue ice after that.
Found the sunrise! We drove along some random road along the shore until we found a place to pull off. There was an actual opening where ice fishermen would go. Figuring there were a few of them WAY out there, we went out on the ice maybe a few hundred feet.
Suki being the majestic fluff that she is. Shes not a fan of the ice probably because she doesn’t get much traction with her fluffy paws.
Andrea being beautiful as always, I don’t know why she puts up with my crazy ideas of waking up at 4am to see the sunrise in 10 degree weather, but im forever thankful!
Post sunrise, we found the famous blue ice! It was EVERYWHERE. The whole shoreline was littered with massive chunks bigger than an SUV.
The A6500 barely surviving in the cold, I was getting into video at the time (see poorly done video at the bottom).
It really is impressive. There are a lot of touristy things in Michigan that are over hyped and this isn’t one of them.
