This was a stop I was super excited about on our week long roadtrip. I had a sunrise horseback ride setup through Sacred Monument Tours. Click HERE for their website. We arrived super late the night before our tour and stayed at The View hotel. Check in was a breeze and the night shift crew was super nice. Click HERE for the hotel website.
We got in so late we didn’t have a chance to see exactly where we were, but the next morning, wow were we blown away. All the rooms in the hotel face the valley, and the view is insane.
The hotel was also convenient to the pickup point for horseback riding. It was in the same parking lot as the hotel!
After a short Jeep ride to the stables were we paired with our horses. The staff was very attentive to our lack of experience and I felt right at home on the horse they gave me.
The ride was scheduled to be three hours, and we got started right as the sun was about to crest the horizon. Perfect!
There were plenty of planned stops for pictures, and our guide Dub was helpful in taking some good ones of us.
After about two hours I noticed the woes of my lack of riding experience. It could have been my 10 years as a car mechanic coming back to haunt me but my knees were killing me.
We did this ride in early November, and it wasn’t as cold as we thought it would be. Were from Michigan, so that may have helped, but also our horses gave off a bit of heat. Temps in the 30s were actually pretty comfortable with some long johns and a good winter coat.
Once back at the stables I think 3hrs was enough for my old man knees. They did have a good trick to stretch out everything, just do a squat! It worked amazingly and we were off to breakfast!
Back at the hotel for food and it did not disappoint. They had a full breakfast buffet that was REALLY good. Bacon was just right, eggs perfect, and service excellent. The View hotel is on point! I wish we had more time to have driven through the valley but we’ll have to save that for another day. There is another option just up the road from monument valley thats kind of fun. Forest Gump point!
You literally just have to put forest gump in apple maps or google maps and it will take you here. Its pretty desolate so getting that middle of the road shot is easy.
