Watson Lake and Jerome, AZ
Yet another Sunday funday in the books, with hiking and ghost towns all in one outing. Watson Lake is a man made reservoir dating back a hundred years. Massive granite boulders surround the lake on the north side white the southern end resembles landscape from a few hundred miles east. Its an easy drive from Phoenix, only about an hour and 45 minutes. Downtown Prescott is a great stop for breakfast on the way up!
On the drive up from Phoenix, the terrain gets pretty high up, 7,000 feet!

Cool town complete with neat old stuff
More from the town square, even on a nice weekend it wasnt super crowded. Great spot!
Arrived at Watson Lake
The water was very clear but im not sure Id want to swim in it. Its pretty stagnant so kayaking at best.
Christine for size comparison, these granite boulders are huge!
Some of the points on the trail had some massive drop offs!
While hiking the perimeter of the lake be sure to pay attention to these white paint marks that look like bird poop. They are the trail markings and are easy to miss at times.
The back part of the trail is somewhat creepy at times.
Creepy cave for cheesing
Stopping for a minute to admire the “Thumb Butte” yes, thats the name of it, im not making it up.
Another great spot to take a break, when your almost out of the actual hiking part of the trail.
When you get to the bike trail part its super easy and flat. Just a long way back to the parking areas on foot.
The never ending expanse of nature and big sky
Gold fields lining the southern end of the lake
Finally made it all the way around! According to our phones it was 8 miles around the whole thing, and it felt like it!
Headed to Jerome for a bit less physically strenuous exploring
